- RED AUTUMN -

Seasonal Poem Intro

the warm and chilly air,

my foot in a pile of red leaves,

evenings getting darker,

I feel it all.

a simple walk with a thicker jacket,

a quick laugh with some hot chocolate,

passion is in the air.

love is all around.

Kerosene by Yves Tumor is an all-around intense song full of vibrancy. The lyrics are about wanting to be special and desired for a lover, thus creating a tension of love in the message. There is a gradual crescendo in the tone of the vocals and the noise level of the instruments, thus leading to the electric guitar playing vigorous and dramatic patterns until the end of the song. With the term kerosene, this track is truly filled with a fiery and explosive love.

Throughout the entire track, Kelsey Lu showcases her emotional and controlled vocals while letting vulnerability slipping through in the lyrics. I'm Not In Love is about the pain and the confusion that love brings by pretending that "it's just a silly phase" in order to not have a broken heart. The energy of the song is a deep ruby-like red since the song contains the uglier side of love and is supported by a sound resembling a beating heart, acting as percussion to keep the tempo and support the beautiful and heart-wrenching vocals.

Ordinary Pleasure highlights a groovy bass, translating automatically to a deep but vibrant shade of red for me.  The funky instruments blend smoothly with the bass, creating a warm atmosphere. Toro y Moi's track is all-around exciting and full of desire with the search for "maximiz[ing] all the pleasure". The hot pink and deep oranges on the album cover combine each other to display an inviting red, which enhances the element of passion.

Through the entrance of the harp, I can imagine red leaves delicately falling on the ground with its rapid but graceful sounding chords. Quarrel tells the story of individuals refusing to settle with the fact that they are in a lovers' quarrel. There is also a vivid contrast between the powerful and painful message behind a struggling love, with the soft and pleasant melody, embraced by Moses Sumney's elegant harmonies. This song contains the different layers of emotions in a lovers' quarrel during the finale of the track, with the almost distorted synthesizer. However, the piano closes the song off warmly, like red roses that could soothe a romantic conflict.
